Renaissance Golf Group (RGG),
the current owner of the Clear Lake Golf Club, is pursuing action to change the
deed restriction imposed on them by Exxon in order to close the golf course and
sell the land for development. RGG has
suggested the 178 acres could be developed into 700 houses, townhouses, and
patio homes, as well as commercial properties.
Representatives of RGG have met with Exxon management, city and county
officials and state legislators in an attempt to persuade them to allow changes
in the standing deed restrictions, which currently restrict the property to
only golf course use until at least 2021.
Should RGG succeed, the impact of this development on all of
Consider the following impacts
Habitat/Species
Loss: The green space provides habitat for a huge
variety of wildlife, both bird and mammal; if the
habitat is lost, the abundant wildlife will also be gone.
Flooding
and Sewage: The golf course serves as the conduit for
storm runoff; flooding is already increasing in
Fire and
Police Protection: Houston Police are retiring in record numbers
and one of our
Traffic
and Congestion: Development will increase traffic and road
congestion along the already congested corridors of
Property
Values: Development of our community’s green space
will decrease adjacent property values virtually instantly.
It is time that the residents’ opinions
are heard with both a letter writing campaign as well as the petition.
Write to the people below and let them
know we oppose green space development!
Exxon: Thank
them for imposing the deed restriction on the golf course to prevent
development until at least 2021. Tell
them how strongly you feel and what the effects of the development will mean
for the community. Ask them to stand
firm on enforcing the deed restrictions and that the community stands firmly
behind their position to keep the restrictions in place. For the two drill site parks, ask them to
please continue to attempt resolution with the local developer. Please do not
express anger or belligerence towards Exxon in your letters.

Elected Officials: Let them know that CLC was a master planned
community by Exxon and certain land was set aside as green space for recreation
and community enjoyment. This included
the golf course and drill site parks.
Developers are threatening to take that green space and pour more
concrete into an already flood prone area.
Put BIG emphasis on asking their help in preserving our Green Space and
not letting it go to greedy developers, which will have a large negative impact
on all of CLC. Keep it positive but make it firm.
